The best uniformed basics 👔
For every season but especially summer (the worst season)
Hi shoppers!
If you’re like me, the start of summer means being in a constant fight with your clothing (yourself, your body, the general atmosphere etc.) I despise dressing for the heat and while I’m a uniformed dressing evangelist all year round, I’m especially grateful for a closet full of simple, easy to pair and wear pieces so that when my brain is melting I can just throw on whatever and leave the house.
And since uniformed dressing looks different for everyone (I’m a simple dress or trousers and a button down person) I thought rather than share my favorite pieces with you, I thought it might be more useful to share some of my go-to stores for the best basics (at all price points) for you to build your own closet of staples.
Gap: Starting off with an obvious classic, Gap is my go-to for button downs, basic tee’s and occasionally also for linen trousers. (I always scour their lounge department especially for an even more billow-y fit.)
Rue Sophie: For refined more upscale basics, Rue Sophie is a new brand on my radar but they have a perfectly curated collection of simple but refined pieces in a range of neutral colors. The materials used are especially luxe and are great options to pair with more affordable pieces to elevate an outfit.
A Day’s March: I love love love Scandi brands when it comes to basics and A Day’s March is one of my favorites. It is such a finely curated collection of neutral basics that having just one or two in your closet will go a long way.
Vince: If I’m looking to splurge on an item that I know I’m going to wear a lot that might be a little less than strictly basic, but still not over the top trendy – Vince is my go to. They make the most beautiful silky blouses, slip dresses, and pull on wide leg trousers.

Old Navy: Another affordable classic for a reason – I ride or die for their oversized button downs as well as their tee-shirts. I also recently became a full convert to their Wow denim which is soft and stretchy without looking jeggings-y.
Unsubscribed: For elevated by relaxed basics, I love Unsubscribed. Their silk trousers are in my constant summer rotation as are their button downs. I love that they also have pieces with feminine details to pair with more man-tailored basics like trousers and jeans. They also have a fab curation of accessories.
Djerf Avenue: I know it comes as no surprise to see DA on here but I’ve never gotten a basic from them that I don’t immediately love. Their tanks are to die for, perfect layering pieces or on their own – their breezy pants, shirts, and dress are some of my most worn pieces year round but especially in the summer.
Aerie: For affordable loungewear basics, I love aerie — they are super soft, super durable, and come in a great size range. I especially love their knitwear for pieces that feel trendy but still preppy and timeless.
