Hi shoppers!
Let’s cut right to the chase: summer is the fucking woooorst season to dress for. I despise the heat which makes me uniquely qualified to help you find summer clothing and accessories you will actually enjoy wearing because I start from a place of de facto misery. Ergo, everything I select will have comfort, breathability, and style already factored in.
I’m going to split this list into two editions as well — and in the coming weeks I’ll be sending out my beauty must haves for the heat because I completely pare back my daily makeup in the heat so I don’t feel like it’s sliding off of me all day.
Ciao Lucia Gabriela Dress: This is my ride or die summer dress. If I want to feel like I’m on some glamorous Italian vacation *and* I don’t want to sweat my tits off, I wear this. It’s an investment but it’s incredibly versatile, and well made – and most importantly: comfortable.
Teva Hurricane & Teva Slim: One of my favorite bitches on the planet, Lara Parker, recommended I give Teva sandals a try when I was complaining to her recently that I couldn’t find comfortable sandals that were supportive enough to walk in. Per usual, Lara was right. These things are *unreal* when it comes to comfort. And they are not the corny Tevas of our sweaty youths. The Hurricane comes in a bunch of cute colors and in a platform and non-platform version. I walked for hours in them recently and my feet felt roughly as comfortable as they do in my New Balances. I also bought a pair of the Slim Universals sandals for slightly more dressed up occasions; outdoor dinners etc. and they’re super comfy as well.
aerie Linen Shirt: Linen is so hit or miss for me because sometimes I find it super comfy and broke in and other times it feels like I’m wearing sandpaper but I absolutely love this oversized button down from aerie. It’s breezy and comfortable and the linen is soft without feeling slouchy or mushy.
aerie maxi dress: Speaking of Aerie, I have been absolutely living in this maxi dress. I have such a hard time with sun dresses because I’m fuller chested but this fits comfortably on me in a L and the orange color is so vibrant and fun.
Djerf Avenue Sorella Top: This is one of my all time favorite summer tops. I wear it by itself with a little bralette underneath or under a neutral cami and I always always get compliments on it. It’s great with baggy jeans, or even as a cardigan over a dress.
Old Navy Wow Denim: Speaking of baggy jeans, I have been on the longest (perhaps my whole lifetime) hunt for comfortable lightweight jeans that don’t feel flimsy or bag out throughout the day and I found these recently and instantly fell in love. They have just the right amount of stretch that you don’t feel constricted at all, but they’re still cotton-y and denim-y enough that they don’t feel like jeggings.
Doen Jiana Top: Doen is an absolute utopia for the most feminine summer blouses and I love this simple, collarless button down. It’s a perfect wardrobe staple and a great investment piece.
Beyond Yoga Midi Dress: If I want something that’s a little sporty but that I can still dress up, I always reach for my Beyond Yoga Spacedye Dress. I adore the super soft spacedye activewear sets and this dress is such a great adaptation of that fabric.
Djerf Avenue Breezy Shorts: I want to preface this by saying I am *not* a shorts girlie so that makes this reccomendation extra strong. I love all the Djerf Breezy products; they’re such a perfect weight poplin and these shorts are no exception. They don’t ride up at all, the waistband is comfortable and a perfect rise. And the legs are just roomy enough that they’re flattering without feeling too balloon-y.
Spanx Slip Dress: One of my least favorite things in the heat is having to navigate wearing a bra, and this Spanx dress has a shapewear style slip attached that offers enough cup support that I can forgo one entirely (a huge feat at an H cup!) It’s so simple and can be easily dressed up or down.
Eileen West Nightgowns: I’m a hot sleeper year round but the summer? I literally wake up with a river of sweat between my boobs if my fan isn’t on high enough. I swear by the crisp cotton of EW nightgowns and sleepwear; they also are perfect for lazy summer mornings. Something about sitting on my back porch in my coastal grandmother nightgown and drinking my ice coffee and reading my book makes me feel chicer than anything.
