Hi shoppers!
This is gonna be a quickie because candidly, the last two weeks have been absolute hell. Just over a week ago my ovary felt like it literally exploded in my body and after a few hours unable to walk even on every pain med in my house, my OBGYN’s office was like (paraphrasing) “go to the ER already, you dumb bitch.”
There, they ran six thousand traumatizing tests and came back with a ruptured ovarian cyst, and a raging UTI. My right ovary also apparently is covered in cysts — bedazzled, as I liked to say. So! After a few weeks of some really solid self restraint, I hit check out on literally every item that even remotely caught my eye in an attempt to soothe my soul as I healed my body. (Oh and if you want to send me a get well card, my Venmo is ms_creilly 🥰)
So, here are all the things I max’d out my credit card on since my little trip to the ~spa~
Bottega Hobo: Ok technically I bought this before I left for the ER but I’d like to think it was because deep in my soul, I knew I was going to need it. When I tell you this is my dream bag — at least 4-5 times a week I scour TRR and other consignments sites for one of these older style Bottega hobos in as close to new condition as possible, so when I saw this one I took the final sale leap and wow did it pay off. My new baby came with the dust bag, leather mirror, and even it’s original tags *and* receipt from Neiman Marcus in 2015. Obviously this particular item is not shoppable but this is all to say 1) if you have a holy grail item, and you finally find it, buy it, because you might end up sobbing at the ER later and knowing it’s on its way will buouy your spirits. And 2) if this particular bag is on your wishlist, BUY IT. It is so fucking comfortable, the leather is magnificent, and it fits six thousand things, all without feeling too heavy.
Gap Linen Cardigan: Now onto items I bought post-ER; I am in a near constant hunt for acrylic knitwear and this boxy cardigan is my new favorite. It is the perfect weight; soft without feeling mushy, relaxed without losing its shape. I bought it in every color and I layer it over a simple silk or cotton tank with black or tan trousers and it’s my new warm weather uniform.
Old Navy Cropped Tee: Everyone has a favorite t-shirt they swear by and truth be told I haven’t really found mine. This cheapie from Old Navy though? Comes pretty damn close. It’s soft like butter and just thick enough to have some hold and be opaque without feeling stiff.
A shit ton of F1 Merch: I’ve been voraciously watching Drive to Survive and like anyone with a brain in my head, I’m obviously team Lewis Hamilton. So naturally, I needed Lewis merch. I bought this tee, and this hat. Also as a card carrying Italian I felt a moral obligation to purchase this Pirelli hat as well.
Beyond Yoga Dress: I’ve had this in the cart for a few weeks because I live and die by their Spacedye material especially for bad pain days, and in dress form its even more pain friendly, obviously because it’s sans waistband. I was a little concerned it was going to look a little too sporty to dress up with a cardigan and sandal but when it arrived I was pleasantly surprised to see that it looks a lot like the Norma Kamali bodycon dresses and not at all like athleisure.
Guerlain Highlighter: I absolutely love the Geurlain bronzers so when they released these highlighters I knew I needed one. I bought the cool ivory shade and it took me one use to become obsessed. I use it as an eyeshadow, as an all over glow at the end of my makeup, and as a more targeted highlight like on the high points of my cheek and on my nose. It’s smooth and natural looking and gives a beautiful sheen without having any sort of sparkle or density to it that some powder highlighters do. Effectively, it’s the look of a cream highlight with the comfort of a powder.
Lydia Southgate Planner: I am a to-do list bitch, as we’ve covered here many times, but it’s hard for me to find a version with sections that match my needs. I typically do a to-do list at the beginning of the week with sort of top line items, and then another each night before bed to prep for the morning. This is the perfect everyday to do list; I especially love that it has sections for appointments and emails that can be separated out from tasks. (I bought mine from Gasp — a small business I found on TikTok; it’s sold out there but they still have lots of cute stuff so I have to give them a shoutout too!)
Material Girl Eats & Watches
I have not been cooking at all lately, mostly because I’ve been on doctor’s orders to stay off my feet. As if a ruptured ovarian cyst and UTI wasn’t bad enough, the antibiotics they gave me to treat the UTI had the lovely side effect of ~tendonitis~ so until that subsides I’m feet up to avoid my tendons bursting or something. As far as TV, obviously Drive to Survive has been a constant viewing choice for me lately and naturally I’ve been reading a new Nordic — the Bat, by Jo Nesbo. This one is def a product of being written by a white man in 1997 so it has it’s cringey moments, but it’s suspenseful and easy to read.
