Hi shoppers!
Thankfully we are in a leap year which means I’m getting my second February newsletter in just under the wire! We’ve been doing a lot of themed lists, gifts guides etc., so I figured today we’ll do a good ole list of quick and fun items I bought this month that I think you should have too! Also please welcome the return of Material Girl Reads with not one, but three recent favs!
Hydro Flask: Yes, I did buy a Stanley and yes literally one day after I bought it all the lead stuff came out, and yes I did panic so yes I did buy a similar tumbler from a competitor and you know what? Glad I did. I love this bitch. It comes in great colors and I’m guzzling water like a camel.
Summer Fridays Birthday Cake: I’m a diehard fan of the Summer Fridays formula so when they launched this I *immediately* knew I had to get it; it smells super similar to their pink sugar formula and has the perfect amount of sparkle without any grittiness or texture.
Annie Selke Blanket: I’ve been redoing my office and got a big reading chair in place of my desk so I of course needed a cute and cozy throw blanket. I wanted something bright and well made so Annie Selke was the first place I checked (a great place for all things happy home goods.) This blanket is so affordable and as soft as the Ugg blanket I have that cost 4x the price.
Understance Bras: Ever since my last surgery, my cup size has been on the fritz and my boobs jumped up from a G cup to a J — I was graciously gifted a few bras from Understance and they are so, so supportive and still so feminine even at a larger size. A lot of full cup bras on the market feel like armor with so much extra boning and material and what I love about these is that structurally, they look and feel like a “regular” size bra, but just bigger so I don’t feel like I’m being completely suffocated.
Djerf PJ’s: I already own a few pairs of the Djerf pajamas; they’re super soft and easy to wear as loungewear. So when I saw they were releasing a new cropped length tapered style with a few new top options, I scooped up a pair of the pants and the tank. I absolutely love them, I’m currently wearing them as I type this! I wear the bottoms all the time around the house with cozy sweaters and big button downs and the tank top is super feminine and lightweight, perfect as the weather gets a little warmer.
Lou Goldie Frames: LG graciously gifted me a few pairs of glasses and I was so pleasantly surprised not only by how comfortable and cute they are but how substantial they are. So many fashion frames are lightweight (ie cheap) but these feel like some of the more expensive frames I have, like my Oliver Peoples.
Westman Atelier Lip Suede: I am an absolute ride or die for anything Gucci Westman creates and my lip suede arrived this morning and I’m already in love. If there’s anything that WA is doing unlike any other brand its formulation; it feels like a balm going onto the lips, not heavy or sticky or wet — but once its on, it has staying power almost like a liquid lipstick. I already want more colors.
Lyngby Porcelain Mug: I’m always on the hunt for ceramics and housewares that are unique and still refined and feminine so when I saw Lyngby on Instagram I was smitten. I reached out to their team and the Rosendahl Design company very kindly sent me a massive package of some of their home goods, including this mug. They also sent along a few vases which I’ll be featuring in an issue I’m planning on DIY flower arrangements but this mug is a great size, a perfect weight — not too heavy or thick but substantial enough to feel good in your hand — and I love the colors it comes in.
Material Girl Reads: I have been reading up a storm lately so here are some of my recent favs:
Under the Storm: A brand new release from one of the best new writers out of Scandinavia, this is a deeply nuanced look at the fallout that occurs after criminal investigations are done in haste.
The September House: GOD this was so good. I don’t usually love anything regarding the paranormal or hauntings because I think sometimes it’s a lazy tool to make a story scary but wow this is so smart, unique, and propulsive. I couldn’t put it down — equal parts a deeply macabre ghost story as it is a look at domestic violence, familial ties, and mental health.
Look Closer: For someone who reads thrillers as much as I do, it’s so rare to actually catch me off guard, and this book did approximately two dozen times. I also loved that, since it was written by a lawyer, a lot of the investigation nitty gritties were true to reality and not so far fetched as to be unbelievable.
